  1. Rip using dvdecrypter in file mode. Use DVDshrink 3.17 in reauthor mode to produce dvd files. I burn the files with Ulead DVD MF 2.1, which gives me a dvd without a menu. The DVD+RW plays fine. Next, I want make a DVD with menus.

I load the +rw into MF and use the "edit disc" function to add menus and burn a new disc. The video on the new disc freezes constantly. (It also freezes when using the preview window in MF, so the behavior before and after burning is the same)

The same thing happens if I take the dvd without menus and use dvdecrypter in ifo mode and load the vobs into DVD MF. Video freezes in the preview window and the final dvd.

Any ideas on why this is happening?

Freezes when? While you are previewing(fast forwarding) to add your chapter markers?

If so....that method SUCKS in Ulead MF2(.1).

I play the RW in my software player....write down the times where I want my markers THEN type the times in.....works MUCH better on my system.
Also let MF2 select the correct place to place the marker IF it can't do it exactly where you want it....it will only be a fraction of a second off.
Selecting "No" will leave you with no marker at all.

  3. Video freezes every second or so, then plays, freezes, plays, ....... Might be more descriptive to call it a constant video stutter.

This happens in all preview windows in MF.

When using "edit disc", I am not trying to add any chapter markers. The markers are retained from the original source.

If I rip the vobs and load into MF, the video stutter is there before I try to add chapters.

Either way...trying to actually play the DVD while in "Edit Disc" mode simply sucks.
What exactly are you trying to accomplish?

Ooops....just read your original post again. You know that a DVD without a menu will still play in a DVD player right? I never put menu's on my "Movie Only" backups.
I use DVDShrink - have it create VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders - burn to a DVD and they autostart in any DVD player.

  5. Yes, I have played the dvd without menus. That's how I can verify that it works ok.

In the case of one movie on a dvd, not having a menu is fine. I want to back up a dvd that has 3 or 4 TV episodes per disc, I'd like a menu for episode selection.

    OK...now I got ya'.
I would still play the RW in the computer first....fast forward to write down where you want the breaks....then type them in.
Sounds like a pain but it sure beats waiting for MF2..
I need to complete two more today as a matter of fact....thanks for reminding me..

Have you figured out the "enumerating video" vs. "copying video" thing on MF2 when you first initialize the Edit Disc function? I haven't.
    All I know is Enumerating=Good....Copying=Bad.
