  1. I recorded an hour-long show from TV with my capture card, and I want to edit out the commercials. I've looked through the help pdf that comes with videostudio and it assumes you've got multiple clips or something, and not one big-ass video.
Can I do it with videostudio, or can you recommend something better and how to do it?

  2. you can do it, just use the "cut" method.... and then save the video.

  3. videostudio is one of the easiest programs to cut and edit out material. just use the scissors. cut where the commercial begins, then cut again where it ends. when you make the second cut, it will automatically select the region before the cut. you can then just press delete and its gone.

  4. Here's how I do that in VIdeoStudio and it has always worked ok.

I have *1* big movie with commercials in it.

    1) drag the movie onto the timeline.
    2) select the clip, slide the slidebar to the 'last frame just before the 1st commercial'. Click the "End Frame" button. That's the right button on the left end of the slide bar.

That makes the first clip up the first commercial.

    3) Drag the movie in again in the next spot.
    4) Select the clip, slide the bar to the first frame of the movie just after the first commercial, then click "Start Frame" button. It's the left button to the left of the slidebar.

Frst commercial is out, movie is running to the next commercial.
    Next commercial

Do the above steps to the end of the movie.

You may need to drag the movie in quite a few times and set start points and end points for each time, but this is the easiest way I've found to do it.

When you are satified click "Share" then try and make the program Smart Render so it does not reencode the video. If all you can see is a black screen or a still shot then the program is smart rendering (copy), but if the program is playing the video (like in slow motion) it is reencoding the video. Press Escape to stop, reset your output settings to match the video properties and try again.

If you add transitions etc the program will reencode those parts regardless how you set it up.

    Good luck.
