  1. I realize this has probably been covered many times, but I did a search and couldn't find anything relevant. Pointing me to other threads is a perfectly acceptable answer to this question, and would be appreciated!

I've authored quite a few dvd's in the past, so I have a reasonable grasp of what's going on. However, I haven't yet tried this. Basically, I have newly-created mpeg1 files which I wish to author along with mpeg2 files onto a dvd.

    1)

    a) I keep reading something about the sampling rate in mpeg1 files needing to be 48000 or something in order to be dvd-compliant, but I didn't see that I had a choice to change that when I converted my .avi file into mpeg1 using TMPGEnc. How would I check the mpeg1 sampling rate, and if it was wrong how would I change it?

    b) Is there anything else in particular I need to be sure of before attempting to burn mpeg1 format to dvd?

    2) Is it perfectly fine to author mpeg1 files along with mpeg2 files onto the same dvd? Are there any compatibility issues at all? I will be using TMPGEnc DVD Author to insert the files and author the disc, and they'll be a mix of mpeg1 and mpeg2. Will this work okay, assuming the answer to question 1 is all taken care of?

Thanks in advance for anybody who takes their time to help me out!

    1. The audio must be 48khz, you can change it under the audio tab.´
    2. Yep, you can mix mpeg1 and mpeg2 but you must create a new track/titleset for each. In tmpgenc dvd author click Add Track.

  3. Thanks for the info!

Now, about the 48Khz rate under the audio tab. When I created the mpeg1 file, I checked that tab (because I'd been reading about this problem) but found it all greyed out, except perhaps the bitrate. I can't fully remember because I was trying (and failing) at the same time to convert it to mpeg2, but I'm sure that I couldn't change the sampling rate because I was specifically looking for that and saw it greyed out. Any ideas why?

Any authoring program that allows multiple VTS (tracks) will do the trick. TMPGENC is the cheapest.
