There are scratches on my dvd, but i still want to get the rest of the movie. Firstly, does reading the dvd over (ignoring read errors) burn up the motor on the dvd drive? regardless, I used dvddecrypter to select only the chapters I want (e.g. vts 01 4.vob) by using "Mode: File F" option. Now I have .bup, .ifo, .vob files. So how do I write them to a dvd???????

new thought: do i just do a straight copy like i would with cdr (e.g. drag n drop)? do i need any additional files, e.g. disc.id, autorun, etc. from the original dvd?

If you want to play the files on a standard DVD player, you're going to have to reauthor the files. DVD Decrypter doesn't actually rip chapters because alot of times many chapters, episodes etc, can be in one VOB.
Use Decrypter to rip the whole disc to the hard drive, then use a program like DVD shrink to reauthor the chapters from the feature you want, if it can do that, i'm not sure... I still use DVD2One for ripping a title only.
Just thinking about it, Smart Ripper might be able to do what you want to do too."*sigh* Warned you, we tried. Listen, you did not. Now SCREWED, we all will be!" ~Yoda
