  1. I am trying to convert mpeg2 files coming out of my beyondtv app to mpeg1 for quick buring to VCD with NERO. They are being encoded using the intervideo codec which installed with my copy of windvd that came with my videocard.

I can't get the files to open with tmpgenc. I have the latest version 2.521. I followed the guide instructions for tracking down this problem. When I go to the Option->Environmental settings->VFAPI plug-in there are no mpeg2 codecs listed.

I tried installing the codec from the link in the guide, and it doesn't show up either. Neither codec shows up under my device manager either.

They DO show up when I run GSPOT under my installed codec list. Also, Windows (XP sp1) has changed the icons on all my mpeg2 files to the intervideo icon, so the system is aware that it is loaded. Also WMP9 can use the codec to play the mpeg files.

If anyone can help me to get tmpgenc to utilize my codecs that are installed, It would be greatly appreciated.

I have read as man threads as I can find doing searches and I haven't seen the answer to my problem.

Thanks a lot for the help.

Try installing the TMPGEnc MPEG-2 Plugin.

if your resolutions are 352*480 or 480*480 you can just create a svcd? as long as your dvd player plays SVCD discs. if you really want to reencode the file to mpeg 1 you can use virtual dub mpeg2 or virtual dub mod and frameserve to tmpgenc.

  4. I've seen the CyberLink MPEG-2 decoder work with TMPGEnc but was never able to make Intervideo decoder work.

Using the CyberLink decoder with TMPGEnc is very slow, i'll go with DVD2AVI or TMPGEnc MPEG-2 Plugin.

  5. thanks for the tips. I will try the mpeg tool tonight. I don't really want to have to use vdub, because it's an extra step I hope to avoid if possible.

I'm still not understanding why the installed codecs are not showing up in my list of choices, however.

Oh well, more mysteries of the unexplained.
