  1. I've been backing up my dvd's to vcd for a couple months now, using Smartripper, DVD2AVI, and TMPG. This has been working great, but I've recently had an idea that I want to try, so I need to know how to convert the vob files from a dvd to avi. (DivX codec would be fine, but I'm flexible about this... )

I tried the "Save as avi" feature in DVD2AVI, but it saves the video and audio separete. What I would like is an easy to use program that will save an avi (with the sound and audio in one file) from vob files.

    Anyone got any suggestions?

  2. Yes, unfortunately I have never used DVD2AVI to create DivX or XviD files. Why not give AutoGK (for newer users) or Gordian Knot (for experienced users) a shot? They're both excellent packages, and I'm sure AutoGK will save you a lot of headaches.

I have used DVDx version 2.2 to convert from DVD to Divx AVI...using this guide: http://www.polarhome.com:793/~afonic/divx5.htm

takes a while for a full DVD...but the quality is very good, and you get a "small" AVI file for editing in VDUB if needed...

    just a thought
