  1. [XP Pro, SP1]

My AutoPlay is not working correctly. I have a DVD Drive and a DVD+/-RW Drive installed, but whenever I insert either a DVD or a CD into either of the drives, XP just opens a folder showing the contents. I am not receiving a prompt to allow me to choose an action.

This is regardless of contents (I've just inserted a normal video DVD, a data DVD containing MP3 files, VCD, Data CD and Music CD - all of which just open as a folder).

    -----------------------------------------------------------------

Other things that don't seem right:

    - Both drives seemed fixed labeled as a 'CD Drive' within 'My Computer' (I understand that this should change dependent on the last operation / contents - but mine remain constantly 'CD Drive').

    - 'DVD Movie' is not listed in the drop down box of the AutoPlay tab within the drives Properties, only: 'Music files', 'Pictures', 'Video files', 'Mixed content' & 'Music CD' are listed, for which 'Prompt me each time to choose an action' is selected.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------

I have TweakUI installed, and everything seems fine there. Everything that needs to be enabled is - and I've tried disabling and re-enabling everything.

I found the 'Autofix' tool, but that hasn't helped. First run on my DVD-+RW picked up problem with 'Current User Policy' and 'repaired' it - but still no joy after reboot. Second run ran 'monitoring tests' and picked up a 'Problems' but clicking on 'Repair' gave this message:
'Either the device is malfunctioning, or the wizard cannot determine the problem'

    -----------------------------------------------------------------

    Other things to consider:

Still burns to CD and DVD fine, Reads DVD's in PowerDVD after I've opened it myself etc.

I get the prompt when I plug my USB HD in asking What do I want Windows to do...

Drives: Nec2500a DVDRW, and Liteon (JLMS) 166S DVD

    It used to bloody work!

Anyone know how to get this working as it should?

  2. to get autorun to work for you, right click on your drive in explorer, select properties, then autoplay tab. select the type of content you want autoplay to see and select the program you wish to use for the content.
As far as both drives being listed as just cd drives may just be a glitch. on my system, my dvd writer and reader are both listed as just readers. you can however rename the name of the drives by just right clicking on the drive leter and select rename. hope this helps.

yeah, I'm aware of this and did say:

    so still no joy...

My DVD drive shows under the CDRom key that they mention so it might work. Only other thing I can think of would be to uninstall the drive via the Device Manager, and then let Windows reinstall it. Hope this helps.

I've also already tried unistalling both drives - no joy.
