Try to start up in 'safe mode'. Usually you hold down F8 when you boot. If you can get into safe mode, the problem is usually software, especially drivers. If no safe mode, the most common hardware problems are bad memory modules (substitute), bad power supply, bad motherboard (hopefully not). If you backed up your important files, try reformating and reinstalling W98. When I used W98 it crashed regularly, that's why I like XP better. That should give you a start.

What do you mean, too much shit on it to backup and reformat?

Too many programs, or too much data saved in other than the Windows folder.

If you have stuff you don't want to loser and it's not in Windows folder, i.e., saved to that drive, and you don't need tp use the programs, or can re-install the programs, pull the drive, slave it to another machine, delete the Windows folder, re-install.

None of the programs will work, except the ones that are a part of SE, but all your data will be there, and you can re-install the programs as you desire.

You can do this with a boot disk and a DOS command, del windows, as well, but it never removes the folder for me. I'm a little illiterate with DOS.

I normally do this when Win98 won't install correctly. The registry gets all full of turds, only way to really clean it is to delete it, along with the rest of Windows.

    Cheers,

    George
