  1. Often when I convert movies with TMPGEnc my PC shuts down in the middle of the process. I know I DID have a virus before, but I re-installed windows XP and my Norton says my PC is free from crap. However, this problem hasn't gone away... Also, I notice that sometimes my cursor jumps a couple of inches. To me this would be typical virus syndromes. But what to do when Norton can't find any??

The shut down problem also occurs when I try to rip video from my old VHS-tapes with WinFast. So you can see that this is a major problem

what does the error message say when you restart? This would be helpful to try and diagnose what ails your computer. kind of straying from the subject, but has anyone had fun trying to remove winpup32. I spent an hour and a half removing it from a former college classmates computer two weekends ago. It kept changing it's filename.

I had the same issue and it wasn't a Virus... Everytime the PC started working had it reset itself.

I traced it to a dust clogged heat sink on the CPU. A quick blow & suck... with the Hoover you naughty peopel, it was right as rain...

You may want to check this out first..

MrRalphMan's suggestion is definately worth a go , it could be a cooling issue. Encoding and capturing will run your processor at 100% and it does seem to crash during a time when the processor is working hard. Clean those fans too.
