Just curious why this is. I personally prefer -R (really for no good reason, I think just cause its what I used first) but I usually see +R for less. Why is this? Are they lower quality or less compatible, or are they just trying to push +R over -R for some reason? Any thoughts much appreciated!

  2. Same price here, but "+" is hardly used here. Perhaps oversupply is causing cheaper price in your area?

Store's tend to have lower price DVD+R media, through rebates and specials.

Rebates come from the manufactorer, not the store. So it's usually the manu who puts the product on sale. Why? Could be a number of things, from trying to move old stock, moving slow stock, moving older product to make way for newer product, they just want to be nice

Online stores have DVD+R slightly more expensive, and some(most) of the time the same price. Which untill recently, was never the case. DVD+R used to command a 25% higher price.

Far as I can tell, the minus's are cheaper. Probably the manufactures have been ramping up plus production and there may be a temporary surplus, thus temporary lower prices.

I still see DVD-R as being cheapest and most reliable media available. Getting better, but not even yet.

I see dvd-r as being cheapest still, but differential is narrowing.
(UK, online). Overall tho prices are dropping nicely @ £10-£15 per 25 spindle..perhaps this Fad will catch on?

  8. The one anomaly I have seen is the difference between the 8X media. The DVD+Rs are starting to drop below $1 and I have seen no -Rs anywhere close. (USA) I am sure this will change but for now these seem to be a bargain.
Still a few bugs in the system...

All the big stores I went to here in New York (Best Buy, Staples etc) +R are either the same price or sometimes cheaper.

So we are talking pretty much equal quality then? It just seems to me everytime I go to Bestbuy or Circuit City (Here in the USA) that +R media is almost always a better price than -R, via rebates, sale, etc. I was just curious if I should then just start buying these +R discs without worry or thought to inferior quality or incompatibility, which I am still not sure about. Any thoughts on that? Thanks for all your posts!

You go to the wrong stores, and are overcharged. That's the problem here. Look for deals online. The DVD-R media are always cheaper (budget-priced) than DVD+R online.

But beware of cheap (garbage) media.

    Here is Australia!
Best prices are around $1 (approx 40pence) a unit in tubs of 50 or more for both media. DVDrw is around $5 a unit for both, singly or in packs or five.

In Canada..the prices are basically the same for both.
Usually the cheaper format... is the one that's on sale.

  14. DVD+R discs are often cheaper because they hold less information, so they use less material.

That may be true, but -R holds less time data. Whereas +R can do over 3 hours, -R can only do 2 hours.

  19. In USA big chain stores jack up the price so they are both the same price. But Online, -r is cheaper.

But NEVERr had a coaster with +R (no matter what crap it was) unlike-R (not trying to start a media war)
