  1. I have troubles with this compination of hardware. The burned DVDs have serious trouble with them (they stuck somewhere at the 80% of the movie). I have tried the drive somewhere else and it works and I think that the problem is the motherboard as I took the hard disk to another PC and burned OK there too with my software.

Does anyone have trouble with that mainboard and DVD burning?

  2. Hi afonic,

A lot of people seem to be having problems when they burn at 8x speed on 4x media with the PX-708A. Some DVD players have trouble playing back DVDs burned this way. If you limit the burning speed to 4x, that seems to prevent this problem from occuring.

    See if that helps.

Does your motherboard have Nforce2 chipset? If it does the problem is the drivers. There was a website to get modified Nforce2 chipset modified drivers but the site is no longer there. Post your question at the Plextor forum site at cdfreaks.com to get some help.

I FOUND THE WARHEAD SITE FOR THE NFORCE DRIVERS!

Here's a thread regarding the nforce chipset problem with 708A.

The problem he is having regards his motherboard. It wasn't about burning @8x speed.

  5. I have some trouble. I used the Reset utility, but it was not fixed. I am not going to install the drivers, I am going to do a format and then installed the mod drivers without the nvidia IDE driver that seems to cause the problem.

  7. Well the mod drivers did not work after the format, but it worked like this:

Install the Unified nVidia driver you can find here:
    http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_udp_winxp_3.13

Be careful, and when it asks you to install nVidia SW IDE driver say NO!

Then download the latest nVidia IDE driver from here:
    http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_ide_4.15_win2KXP.html
And install this one instead the one that is in the package.

I found out that nVidia has not updated the package (unified drivers) for long, and that it includes the first version of the IDE drivers that are extremely buggy and create problems with all DVD writing and not just PX-708 and nForce2.

Thanks again for all your help, as the driver idea was the right one! I hope this will be helpfull for someone!
