For lack of a better word, I just 'inherited' an Asus P4T533 motherboard.
This is a Pentium-4 board that supports a 533MHz FSB and Dual-Channel 1066MHz RIMMs.
I have heard and read mixed reviews on anything in the memory industry beginning with the letter 'R' but nothing on these types of modules. Anybody had any experience with them, or any links of interest regarding their capabilities?
This board supports 232-pin 32-bit Dual Channel modules. And you want to talk about a hard memory SKU to find!![]()

Bleah, I could have gone the rest of the day without hearing ANY of those acronyms repeated in these forums
Remember RAMBUS? Yeah, represent! -
I wondered.
1) They're harder than hell to find. I've only found Samsung 'Originals' so far, at about 50¢ per MB.
2) How often does somebody offer you a NIB motherboard with a fresh factory tag on the bag in exchange for some blank DVDs?
3) It used the 'R' word. That usually causes me to lose interest pretty quick. Then again, it only cost me some blank DVDs... -

I think that one still requires a CRIMM, something like a terminator for an empty RIMM slot. Here's the prices for Mushkin's line of 1066 MHz RIMMs:

So fortunately you only have to spend $999 as opposed to $1998 for two sticks. I'd definitely go after the backordered 512MB chip since it costs the same as the 256MB stick
Man, you just got hoodwinked out of 25 DVDs. Damn, this is funny -

You think? Maybe? Possibly? -
I can't recall which board we're running (an OEM Dell product) but I have 2x 512MB sticks of RAMBUS in my PC at work. It also has a Quadro 700XGL but since it's still running Win2k it sucks regardless. RDRAM was supposed to cure memory faults as I believe all of it was ECC standard, but I get BSODs all the time on that workstation. The stuff is fast as hell though. I wonder how well it overclocks
I'm not entirely sure why Mushkin is selling theirs at such a high cost. You'd think they'd be trying to launder the damn stuff and make like they never had it -
Actually, I am intrigued by the possibility this board offers. LordSmurf uses a P4/RDRAM-based system, and although he has chosen the puny 800MHz route, he is still completely impressed with its performance.
Now I don't make much of a secret the fact that I respect his knowledge and experience in the field. When I first discovered he was using ATI (Absolutely Terrible Interface) I thought he was crazy. And yet, here I am, a dedicated. No wait, a devout ATI AIW user. So when the opportunity presented itself, I thought, 'he was right about ATI, I wonder if he's right about RDRAM, too?'
So, we shall see what we shall see. It'll be fun, and if it doesn't work out, well, there's always eBay! -
indolikaa definately did get a RIMM, job that is
there's always ebay -
sorry glockjs wasnt around, and if glockjs isnt around then glockjs couldnt make a pun like glockjs always does. glockjs is a funny mofo 8)
damn i love myself
i would seriously ebay that board, buy one that takes ddr...make your life alot easier -
Nope, I've always wanted to try RDRAM and I'm gonna do it!
I need another computer like I need another hole in my head. But if this works, I might put one of my Athlon systems on eBay...
NOT! -
Bah, I started on AIW systems and can't stand them anymore after using a dedicated capture device like the Canopus or even the Dazzle I can't go back to using my VGA card for capture. I just can't see why an AIW card has the ability to capture while it's outputting to VGA without being dual-head. If you look over the hardware they're actually very simple devices. But that's ATi stuff, not RAMBUS which I understand even less
