That's the one I was getting occassionally at first as well. At which stage is it occuring for you? Mine were happening when it had to transcode imported video files so now I encode and demux them before importing them into Encore. The more elementary the streams the better.
Watch the compile dialog as you're making the disc image and see where it throws the error message. If it's right at the beginning BE CAREFUL. That error will corrupt your save file and you'll lose all your authoring. Save it as a new file ("yourfilename" revision 1 or something), exit Encore completely, then load up the new save file and try writing from that one. -
I am getting this error too. It is so frustrating. I have a question, how do you encode and demux so I can bypass this damn error.

Go pick up TMPGEnc, it'll be the most useful program on your computer and it only cost $50 (last I checked anyway). Even after spending over $1000 on Adobe software for video editing that one little app is more important than all the rest. Use that to encode whatever video files you're importing to MPEG2 elementary streams (m2v and whatever audio format you want to use, I prefer AC3). Then import these streams into Encore to use. It should automatically detect that they're transcoded properly and thus skip the big transcoding phase. I still let Encore encode motion menus and short clips like that, but nothing big. Also keep in mind that most of my motion menu clips are authored in AfterEffects so its an Adobe-authored stream which probably helps Encore utilize it. Anyway, there are plenty of guides on this site that explain how to use TMPGEnc so I'm not even going to get into that...
I think the problem comes from bad video streams. Encore is very finicky about which codecs and what kinds of video it will read from. By giving it the easiest format to work with, MPEG2 streams, it has less troubles getting all the data sorted out. Further, TMPGEnc gives you more control over quality settings than the built-in Encore encoder allowing you to tweak your video compression to get better results. -
My video file are already mpeg2 and I still get this error.
The error happens at "Planning video for movie." Unknown error(DVD Error -1)
Any ideas? Thanks for helping! 8) -
Got the same problem - did somebody manage to get over it?
It's first time it happens for me. 3 videos of 30 minutes with subtitles. Nothing else. -
Already ahd 1.0.1 - but anyway found the problem. One of the mpeg stream had been badly encoded.
Thanks for your help.
