  1. VirtualDub has not handled capturing the audio from some the of avi files that make up a number of tv episodes, so I have tried using GoldWave and Avi2Wav instead

    Avi2Wav makes much smaller files (40Mb v 600Mb for GoldWave & Virtualdub) - why is that and doe this imply low quality?

    And on one of the problematic files, Goldwave cannot decipher the format of the file - what setting should I use?

    If AVI2WAV produces an audio file 10% of what GoldWave and VirtualDub gives you, I'm pretty certain the output from AVI2WAV is still compressed in whatever shape the audio is in the AVI (MP3 or AC3 most likely) while GW/VD really has decompressed the audio to a real WAV (not just a MP3 with wav header).
