encode it using Dr Divx ,and the file gets samller but loses quality and sharpness.
I need to share this file so I cant have it too big,so can you guys give me some advice on what software to use?
(The original file captured with windv is 36gb for 3 hr. VHS tape.
After encoding with Dr Divx it gets to about 1.1 gb which is good, but I can see the sharpness is gone).
Thank you guys for any help offered.

Sounds likes you need to raise your bitrate. Haven't done much with DrDivx, though I have it on my PC. Also Virtualdub apparently will encode DIVX (From DV if you have the Pansonic DV codec and the DIVX codec installed.)

what resolution are you using?
when i e.g. capture at 352x288 i have very good quality, and the file only gets 3.6 GB per hour.
i guess when you make a good mpeg file it'll take half the space or so.Music was my first love, and it will be my last
