I purchased for the first time from Office Max the FUJI DVD-R 4x speed 10 pack Jewel case. I've read many postings about these discs that are manufactured by TAIYO YUDEN are the best of the dvd media. This was the only brand of media I have not tried. What I find peculiar about them is my Toshiba 1612 dvd rom is not able to read them. I loaded a blank one in the Toshiba dvdrom and opened up DVDINFO PRO to find out the media information. It locked up and would not read the blank dvd. At first I thought it was just my Toshiba dvdrom but it did the same thing on my other Toshiba 1612 in my other pc. Then I loaded it into my Plextor 708A & Liteon 411S and it was read perfectly fine as TYG01.
Anyone ever had this problem using Toshiba 1612 dvdroms? I have Hijackers no limits firmware on both of my Toshiba 1612 dvdroms. I'd appreciate any comments. Thanks!![]()

I AM GONNA TEST SOMETHING BEFORE I INSTALL, I HAVE 2 OF THEM. IF THIS WORKS THE WAY I WANT IT TOO, I WILL BE SMILING SO HARD TILL MY JAWS HURT -

Use your burner to get the media ID, then the ROM to read it back for a quality check. -

Yea that drive really flies now. Now if I start to have skipping or any other problem's we know where it may come from

Lordsmurf was correct about Toshiba's being picky with media. I did burn 1 FUJI DVD-R 4x disc and it was read in the Toshiba 1612 but odd thing is it wouldn't show the media code using DVDINFO PRO. Although it showed the media code when I used my Plextor 708A.

In conclusion I found that the Toshiba drive doesn't support media code. I tried another brand of DVD-R, RITEK G04 & it said the same thing, "doesn't support media code". The Toshiba works great as a ripper which is the reason why I purchased it & because of Hijackers firmware that unlocks the speed limit.

I read in a forum and it seems you have had the firmware for awhile(and you didnt call me and tell me....lol J/K) and it seems you still have it, and that tells me NO PROBLEM with it.
I can't remember where I had typed that I was getting tired of this drive(reason was because of the slow rip speed). I kinda remember(around the time I bought them) reading that drive was able to read @ 16X but it would never do it.
Ran a few test and im kinda happy about that, noticed that the drive is having problem's reading outside the 4gig sectors, not sure if having problems or just not reading... that was before the new firmware and afterwards
