Verbatims are on sale. 100 count for 19.99 50's for 14.99 and 20 +r DLs for 24.99. All were MIT, no MII were on the shelf at my Office Max. I think, this is an excellent price so I grabbed up one of each.

  6. You can get them online too. If you buy 4 of them, you can use the coupon code SAVECASH in all caps to get $15 off and free shipping. It comes to just over $68 total for 400 discs, $17 per 100. They have - or + discs either one.

Thanks for that coupon code samijubal! I ordered 4 of the 100 pack spindles and my local office max has them instock so I don't have to wait for it to ship from the mainland!

Thanks for the promo code. It works for me too although they tack on more than $5 taxes. I got through to the last click of placing the order online then realized I don't know enough yet. I want to make sure I'm buying the highest quality (1st class) discs. I have never bought single layer Verbatims before, only DL, so I don't know what's involved. Previously I've mostly used Taiyo Yuden TYG03 single layer discs and never had a coaster with them, so I'm very spoiled in that regard. I'm also concerned about longevity.

Does anyone know the disc IDs for the various specific packages at OfficeMax.com? For example MJA said above that the DVD-R are "MCC 03RG20". Is that for the Verbatim DVD-R Disc Spindle, 100 pk., Item # 21223105, Manufacturer # 95102? Also, is that a good media code to have, and why? (references?)

I've seen the Verbatim media code "MCC 004" mentioned elsewhere, and have some Playo discs that use it. Are any of these Verbatim discs having that ID code? Would they be better/worse/same quality of discs as "MCC 03RG20"?

Also some are called "Branded" and some aren't. Is there any advantage or difference to "Branded" discs?

    Thanks.

I'm just trying to find out some details about these particular Verbatims being sold at OfficeMax... It's not a matter of trust, nor of buying a different kind such as TY. I already have a stock of TY on my shelves, but might buy some Verbatims too - if I can get a reasonable reassurance/guarantee that they're of the highest quality (1st Class media). For example, I'd like to know the disc IDs before buying any.

Verbatim is as good as TY. I don't know about buying online, but the ones in the store are MIT discs. I've had no problems with branded or not, they seem to be the same.

The 100 pack of +Rs are MCC-004-00 according to imgburn good for up to 18x. I haven't cracked the others yet. I've never run into a bad batch of Verbatims.

Thanks for the info, everyone... I also googled and read for awhile, including looking at some published quality scans of the Verbatims.

Except for a somewhat lower price (about 20 cents per disc for 16x Verbatim, vs about 33 cents for 16x Taiyo Yuden), I couldn't find any compelling reason to buy Verbatim MCC004 or MCC03RG20, in preference to, or to replace my current stock of Taiyo Yuden TYG03 which will last me til the end of this year. My TYG03 discs quality scan as good or better than the Verbatims, and they always play fine even when the occasional scan is poor. Also after 300+ burns with TYG03, coasters=0. The strongest statement in support of Verbatims (in my mind) came from a couple of very knowledgable people who said (elsewhere) they have better "reflectivity", but there is apparently no published scientific study in support, so alas must be regarded as hearsay. Mind you, I'm not knocking the Verbatims. They're obviously high quality.

  15. I got my discs today. They are all 4 MIT. They came with the spindles all busted up because there was no packing material in the box. Since I want the spindles for storage, I called and told them they were all busted up, they are going to pick these up and send another batch. Hopefully they will arrive in better condition.

I didn't open any of them to get the media code.

I only received 2 out of 4 spindles that I ordered and there was NO PACKING MATERIAL as well but they weren't busted up. But the Mferrs only sent 2 of the 100 spindle packs of the DVD+R media when they told me they had the DVD-R instock as well at my local office max warehouse. Dumbasses can't even give me a tracking number for the 2 spindles of DVD-R that's coming from their Los Angeles warehouse. But yet they could give me a tracking number because it came from my local warehouse. How stupid is that! This is the last time I'll be ordering anything from office max crap!

I thought I had made a prior post here in a similar vein, but maybe it wasn't finalized.

Thanks for the candid information. I had a similar experience with Rima, who also doesn't pack their shipments properly to avoid damage. So I won't order anything online from Rima or OfficeMax regardless of the good deal involved!?
