Hi,
Okay, I’m going out of my mind! I’ve been converting XviD AVIs to DVD for a while now without any problems… but suddenly I now have audio sync problems with everything I try. As far as I can tell I’m following the same procedure as always but I just can’t get anything to work. I’ve searched these forums (and others) and followed some suggestions but nothing so far has worked. If anyone has any other suggestions I would be very grateful. Here’s my process:
1. VirtualDub - Save AVI without audio and save audio as WAV
2. Fit2Disc – Create and save AVS file
3. CCE - Load AVS, edit and encode. Rename MPV to M2V
4. Pulldown - Convert from 23.976fps
5. SoftEncode - Convert WAV to AC3
6. SpruceUp DVD- Import M2V/AC3 files into SpruceUp.
When playing back in SpruceUp at this point it becomes clear that the audio is out of sync.
I’ve also tried a straight conversion to MPG in TMPGEnc, which resulted in the same sync problems.
I've remuxed in TMPGEnc but had the same sync problem.
I’ve tried “fixing” the AC3 in BeSpliced but it didn’t improve things
The only time I got a successful sync was when I used M2A audio and imported into SpruceUp. It was a good test but no good for DVD conversion.
I’ve tried everything I can think of but I’m now at a complete loss.
Any ideas?
Cheers

You could try using virtualdubMOD to demux the audio if it's AC3, I had the same problems as you have described when xvid's were encoded using VBR instead of CBR, the beauty of using the mod version of virtual dub is that it will extract the audio as an AC3 file so you dont have to mess with besweet etc to convert the wav to AC3, once it's extracted the AC3 file run that through AC3fix and you should have no more sync problems, it worked for me and it comes out with 5.1 using besweet i could only ever get 2 channel AC3.
you can download it here http://sourceforge.net/projects/virtualdubmod/ -
Are you converting pal to ntsc
You could try using virtualdubMOD to demux the audio if it's AC3
The length of the AVI and the WAV seem to differ by a few hundred milliseconds but I’m not sure if VirtualDub shows time down to milliseconds so they may actually be the same length. Anyway, I tried adding 300ms of silence to the front of the WAV and then convert to AC3 just to see if it was skewed. Then the worst happened… SoftEncode crashed after 13 seconds and now refuses to encode anything. It now crashes 13 seconds into every conversion I attempt. I’ve uninstalled and re-installed but it still crashes… and I thought I was frustrated before! Now I need to re-install XP or find another AC3 converter.
Thanks for your suggestions
