  1. I have a simple file in illustrator that I want to burn off to a vcd or a dvd that will playback in a consumer dvd player. What is the correct conversion process...thanks in advance

You need either Illustrator or Photoshop (or similar competitor's app).

    1 Open file
    2 Resize and/or render to 720x480/576 screensize/pagesize (watch out--non-square pixels!)
3 save as tif, bmp, etc.
4 convert to mpg stills, the usual way, via TMPGEnc, VCDEasy, etc.
5 author with app that can deal w/ mpeg stills
    6 burn

    That's pretty much it.

  3. You probably want the Mac solution. There are a few ways to go about this. Probably the easiest is to save the Illustrator file as something Quicktime understands. Try opening it in Photoshop as an eps and saving it as a TIFF. Then just drag it under the Video Tab in Toast and there you go. You could also import into iPhoto, open up iMovie and select the Photos tab. You can then use the Ken Burns effect and pan across your image. Then you can export to iDVD or grab the movie in the project folder and convert it however you need. You could create a video still by following RNC's method found here: http://homepage.mac.com/rnc/MMGen.html

Whichever way you choose, make sure that what you want to show fits in 720x480 and you leave a 10% outside border which many TVs hide behind the bezel. Photoshop has a preset size for NTSC video, I usually just use that.

Sorry, I didn't even notice which forum this was posted in.

I'd agree with the last post, except I don't like the "iApps". Too constraining.

What apps do you have available?
