  2. DivX-compatible codecs and players are also able to play XviD in almost all cases.

I also have a file in 3viD which will not play in QT even though I have installed Divx and xivd codecs. FFmpeg will convert the file into a Divx .avi (mencoder) 2 pass playable in QT with excellent quality but the audio (mp3) will not encode. I have checked mp3 encode, passthrough no encode, and passthrough encode all to no avail. Each time (18+ hours!!) the resulting .avi has no audio track. Can anyone suggest another plan?

    TIA

    Hi,

I have had NO problem playing Xvid files by using the 3ivx codec. (www.3ivx.com).

  6. MPlayer is fine on most systems, but I run OSX on a laptop and MPlayer tends to skip frames when the processor speed drops (to save batteries). I find that VLC is a lot better on the slower processor speed.

    p.s: my laptop is a G4 PB 12 867 - (567 on batteries)

  7. MPlayer <-- http://mplayerosx.sourceforge.net/
    VideLan <-- http://www.videolan.org/

Also sifferent QT plugins are available from DivX, 3ivx and the one listed on the toolspage of this site.
