I am using powervcr II 3.0 to cap in MPEG2 format. I can watch/view it with no probs in zplayer. Video and audio sync are almost perfect in zplayer. But when I use virtualdubmod to open the MPEG2....the video and audio gone completely out of sync. They are at least 2-3 secs lag. There are no frame drops when I cap it.
Everything is fine in zplayer but in vdub, the video and audio gone completely out of sync. Some guy told me to save the wav, then insert the wav again in vdubmod and compress it with Lame MP3 CBR 128. I tried it but the audio is still way out of sync.
Any ideas??![]()
Kinda important,gotta know ASAP!!

Encode the video in Vdubmod with no sound, use a seperate audio encoder such as Goldwave to create an mp3, then multiplex your video and audio with AVI MUX GUI.

I got this error in AVI-Mux GUI.
Could not read from audio source 1. although the end of the steam has not been reached yet. A reason could be bad frame headers.
My original video is 33.22. My encoded video is 33.23. Any idea what happened? That could be the problem for my audio sync. I didn't change any settings relating to the frames but the length still changed. What should I do? I gotta get it all done by saturday. -
Hmm. Maybe you should try stretching the audio so the length matches the video. Open the mp2 again with Goldwave, go "Effect>Time Warp", then select a length of 33.23, hit ok and wait for the effect to be applied, save as mp3 again, and finally try multiplexing again with AVI MUX GUI. Good luck.

The audio sync is much better than before but still a little off. This is what I do,step by step.
First,I use vdubmod to encode my MPEG2 into xvid 900kps single pass. No filters or any other adjustments. Stream>stream list>disable audio,
Then, when encoding is complete, finished encoded version has 54657 frames while original encode has 54658 frames. I started Goldwave, open my MPEG2 file(it works now),effects>time warp>change to 30:23.722 which is the length of my encoded video. Original video length is 30:23.755. When I opened the MPEG2 file in Goldwave, the audio length is 30:04.434,which is almost 20 minutes off from the original video.
Lastly,I used AVI-Mux GUI to join the mp3 and video together although it said there "SRTubtitle" which is wrong since I added my mp3 and no subs.
Finally, the joined video looked fine with like maybe 0.5-2 secs off sync with the audio.
Am I doing anything wrong?? -
Not necessarily. Open the newly created avi with Virtualdub and go to File>File Information. Do the audio and video durations match? You might be able to sync up the two by going to Audio>Interleaving. Play around the "Audio Skew Correction", hit ok, then click on the output playback button(the play button with an "O") to preview. Once things match up correctly, save as a new avi but make sure "Direct Stream Copy" is selected for both the audio and video menus. Also, when making xvids you should consider using 2-pass mode. Trust me, you'll get a nicer looking video that way even though it takes longer to encode.

I don't see a "Audio Skew Correction" in vdubmod.
"What does preload 500ms of audio before video starts" means? The audio will be played 500ms earlier than the video, causing the sync problems? And what is Interleave every 1 frame? Does any of this affect the sync?
I know that "offset audio to maintain V/A sync" and "cut off audio when video stream ends" both cause sync problems. But I ain't really sure about the preload problem, any ideas? -
Try using Womble before getting into something too radical. I'm capturing the same as you and have no problems. (even with V-Dub Mod).
Look harder at what is happening with powervcr, try a differant format, as there are a couple of options to capture mpeg 2."Whenever I need to "get away,'' I just get away in my mind. I go to my imaginary spot, where the beach is perfect and the water is perfect and the weather is perfect. The only bad thing there are the flies. They're terrible!" Jack Handey -

I tried it and it worked....it said preload 500ms of audio....I thought that might be the cause so I tried 500ms in audio skew...and it doesn't really work,so I tried -500 instead, and it worked!!
Thnx a lot!! ^_^
And btw...as for my settings in powervcr for MPEG2,I used the highest and best settings at 10,000kps since its only 2-4GB max in size instead of 30GB avi.
Does preload of audio has any effect on the sync?
