I run my editing room off my Powerbook G4 with two Lacie d2 drives (120 and 200GB). I've been reading a lot about "striping" drives into a RAID configuration to get faster transfer speeds, but that's mostly recent talk about Firewire 800 drives and HD.
Would it be something that would work well with my two Lacie drives, even though they're Firewire 400 going into my computer? I do get dropped frames once a month or so, would this keep this from happening?
Thanks

I think the drives have to be identical in size at least for a RAID to work. There are also suggestions that the drives should be identical in every way ie. Manufacturer, RPM, cache, etc.

They should be similar if they're mirrored, though not necessarily identical, but for striping, it really doesn't matter. You should be able to software RAID them through the Panther Disc Utility, but be warned, you lose everything if one drive fails, and who knows what will happen if you only mount one of them. Oh, also, I don't know how many FW buses your computer has, but if you only have one, I don't know if you'll see any appreciable increase in speed. Back up everything first, and try.
If it isn't broken, take it apart and find out why.
