  1. My girl wants me to format her laptop and put XP on it. The thing is, I don't know the first thing about formating a laptop. Is it the same as a desktop?? The PC is kind of old (If you think 4 years is long ago.) Its a P3 but not sure about the speed...(just checking now) with 191 MB of ram...at least thats what its showing up as.

Anyway, can anyone out there help!?

  2. Normally it's not an issue until you have to start installing those specialized hardware drivers for sound, video, modem, etc. The generic drivers will get you to the point where the machine will boot into Windows.

The only issue I could see is the registration nonsense with XP, if that even happens to be an issue.

from my experience, it is exactly same as desktop. just boot w/ xp cd and follow the instruction. Install xp and it will detect most of hardware in laptop.
Just remember to backup her files and, just in case, write down hardware configuration.
Trust me. if you do it right, it will be worthy(from my experience).

  4. Alright...I will try. Ive backed up the files she wants to keep. As for settings, I don't think she ever messed with them, so its all default. If I have problems, I know where to come for help. In the end, the important thing is MY PC is running fine.
