  1. I have files with the extension .avi that can be played using divx player, as well as windows media player. However, I have other .avi files that can be played with divx player only, and not windows media player. With this said, are there different types of avi files??

Secondly, I use a vcd maker/burner that converts avi files into mpeg or vcd files automatically. When the avi files that can be played with windows media player are converted in mpeg and made into a vcd, I can use a dvd player to view it. However, if the avi files cannot be played with the windows media player, my dvd player does not show video; only video. Can someone please explain why this is, and what vcd burner is good?

p.s the vcd maker I use is ht burn dvd 3.2 version at www.honestech.com

    THANK YOU!!!!!!

.AVI is not a real file format. It's what's called a "container" extension and indicates a video file is inside. It could be any one of many different encoding and compression schemes.
