I don't have time or bandwidth to look at all those eBay links. Just get yourself a Lian Li and mod it yourself. Getting a pre-modded case is no fun. I picked up an Antec P160 for my new computer. I'd suggest one of those if you just need to fit an ATX motherboard. 120mm cae fans are the way of the future, and the case just looks so clean.

Get any case you want, preferably cheap, that pleases your eye, if it has a good PSU, use it, if it doesn't, take it out and replace with Antec or PC Power and Cooling(something like that) 400 to 550 watt.

Case just holds components in place.

Get one with plenty of drive bays, lots of room to get your hands inside for CPU or RAM changes.

Try to get one with grill for a second fan on the back panel, pulls more air through the case, meaning more, cooler air to cool the CPU heatsink as well as cooler air in case to suck through the PSU.

Without, all air is sucked through PSU after cooling Vid Card, RAM, other cards, drives, CPU, high case temp air is supposed to "cool" the PSU?

    Cheers,

    George

If the original ? was which is prettiest, I'll pass. My cases are utilitarian.

    That's not "religion", either.

  9. Those are all good cases but I would go to www.amamax.com. They have free shipping and they're cheaper. Plus 420watts isn't a hole lot if your gonna have everything in it, CD-rom, cd-rw, DVD-rom,DVd-rw, 2 hard drives, video card, sound card, video capture card, etc....

Here's the 1st case you listed for $54.00 but it's free shipping

Actually if you start adding up the power requirements for your hardware and have a good Brand power supply a 350 or 400 should be plenty.

I've got this case, came with antec trupower 430 watt psu, runs great with my setup:

2x512 PC-3500 Kingston HyperX (in Dual Channel)
    WD 36GB 10k Raptors (Raid-0 on Intel Ichr5 controller)
160 GB Seagate SATA (Promise controller)
250 GB Maxtor SATA (Promise controller)
    NEC 1300A Writer
    Liteon DVD-ROM
    TDK CDRW
ATI radeon 9700 pro 128mb (retail)
    sb audigy platinum ex
    floppy drive
    wireless network card
    scsi card

Never had any power issues, case is nice, simple and tough. Was about $115 at time of purchase. Antec makes very good cases.

  14. Hmmm I guess I was was wrong. I was always under the impression that with more devices and more RAM + a higher CPU speed you needed more power. More a safe buffer zone of power if you want to call it that. I used to have a 350 watt supply with my current setup and If I ever tried to burn a disk to either burner then read another one in the other drive my computer would reboot. Maybe my PS was just crapping out. Oh well, the consensus vote is it'll work.

  15. I have been shocked with what I have been able to run with my puny 200w 4 year old power supply...4 hard drives, DVD-ROM, DVDRW, CDRW, USB scanner, USB FM tuner, USB mouse.
No, I'm from Iowa. I only work in outer space.

I found this site on either this forum or another one I can't err remember.
It's on how to calculate power supply wattage.

Can't remember what I was running PSU wise, but a long while ago 486ish, I was using alot of SCSI stuff and I noticed that when my 2x 7 disc CD changer was on my powersupply would sometimes make this "groaning" osund when ever I tried to use it.

anyway at the time I had access to a wholeseller prices so I went and got a 300watt which was like OMG server huge at the time, swap and the problem went away. But I had that case STUFF with hardware, video cards, ram, extra controllres, scsi, hard drives, external changers, internal BIG scsi hard drive. it was a full tower (at that time full tower meant FULL TOWER) and was stuffed with hardware.

Anyway, getting a good PSU is very important when it comes to having a stable box. Many issues turn out to be bad or cheap PSU and cheap RAM related. More then most people would think.

Maybe I should add a section to the FAQ about that...

Both my current machine and the new box I'm building have Antec TruePower 550w power supplies in them. I've never had any issues related to power whatsoever and the current rig is powering 3 ATA 7200rpm hard drives, 2 15krpm SCSI drives, a DVD burner, a DVD-ROM, and up to 10 fans in addition to both the power-hungry CPUs and a full PCI array (6 cards and AGP video card). Power has never dipped more than 2% on any rail.
