  1. I'm using Pinnacle Instant CD+DVD version 8 on my Pentium 4, Wondows XP Pro PC,
with Sony DVD RW DW-U14A and Sony CD-RW CRX225E burners.

To create data discs I am, unable to add to an existing track using the "Multisession"
command (clicking on Track 1, then on "Add").

The software goes through the motions of gathering all the files together - from Track 1
and those that I'm trying to add - but stalls when it tries to burn the disk, reporting that
it was unable to start at Track 1, and giving a report consisting of a mass or error numbers.

I've tried all the variations in the Advanced settings of the Write Disc Project which the
software will allow - No Erase, Closing Method - (DO NOT CLOSE DISC !) although
the offering here are not always the same.

I would appreciate any help. Am I missing something ? Does the different media that I use - CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R and DVD-RW - have any bearing ? I use known-name disks as I understand some of the problems that cheapo material may bring.

I've reinstalled Instant CD+DVD vers 7 and the update to vers 8 TWICE with no apparent
    improvement, using EndItAll before installing.

    Kind regards, RonLuxton@Compuserve.com

  2. I think I've cracked this problem - by pure luck really !

Irked and irritated by a piece of software, I kept playing with it until, quite by chance, I loaded the files from the Resource window to the Project window BEFORE clicking on "Multisession". (Before I had always clicked on the Hardware button in the Projects window BEFORE adding files from the Source window)

I already had the DVD in the drive containing earlier files that I wanted to add to, and after clicking on "Add to Track 1" off it went and burned the extra files to the existing ones.

I though I'd tried all the permutations but this was one I had missed. There is no mention in any of the Pinnacle Instant CDDVD help or instruction files of this order of doing things, which seems a serious omission to me.

Anyone using this software and finding this problem may find this of some help.

  3. I guess that is NOT the answer - although how it worked for a couple of uses I don't know.

I've removed Pinnacle Instant CD+DVD and installed Nero 6.

Even this doesn't work for multisession with DVD, but they DID check my equipment using one of their utilities downloaded from their site, and seem to think that I need a FIRMWARE update.

Of course, Sony don't offer anything for my DW-U14A, but as this came already installed on my new PC, I guess that it comes under the title of "OEM" and they don't want to know anything about it !

Now all I have to do is sort that lot out.

Regard this thread as closed. If I get lucky I'll report back with a new thread.
