To take off the audio or video from a CD or DVD. Often CD Audio is "ripped" to MP3 files or DVD video ripped to VOB files. VCDhelp ripping why doesn,t some one just answer the question in a civilized manner?------

    Kamran,
This is such an "obviously" stupid, unresearched question that people probably thought it was an April Fool's joke.

    I agree whole heartedly.

My advice to any noob out there:

    Check the Glossary
Read "What is DVDR" (top left)
    Do a websearch

It is a forum - you have to take the good with the bad. To those who are berating people for taking the piss - You must expect that if you expect anyone here to hold your hand. Do some research !
    If in doubt, Google it.

Sorry but your answer might be civilised but unfortunately wrong.
You don't 'rip' cd to mp3 , you convert cda to mp3 , and you don't 'rip' to .vob files , you 'rip' or extract the .vob files from a DVD to your HD.

And Kamran I think you may be geting confused between Reading and Writing speeds.

I think we're getting a bit technical now aren't we ? Bobmeyer was providing a simplified explanation because it was obvious that an in-depth one would have gone over Kamran's head. And technically, I agree with him anyway. and funnily enough, he quoted straight from the glossary !

Kamran is talking about reading speeds - The 107 has a 2X read restriction which can be upped to 12X read with a firmware hack.
    If in doubt, Google it.
