  1. I have just encoded a small section of DVD into Xvid using DVDx and the version 1.0 RC3 Xvid Codec. (I tried to follow this guide religiously: https://www.videohelp.com/guides.php?link=525, as this is a first time with these tools).

Anyway I could not get it to work untill I uninstalled Nimo and other codec packs, but eventually the encoding all went well. I thought.

Now I am trying to view my creation. It won't open in Windows Media Player .... but I can watch it in VirtualDub. The AVIcodec program says it is just fine. Also I have other party Xvid films that I can still play fine in Media Player.

Can anyone help me from tearing the rest of my hair out,

p.s. this is what AVIcodec tells me about my creation:

    File : 19.75 MB (19.75 MB), duration 0:03:20, type AVI, 1 audio stream(s), quality 58 %
    Video : 16.71 MB, 700 Kbps, 25.0 fps, res. 640*368 (16:9), XVID = XVID Mpeg-4, Supported
    Audio : 3.3 MB, 128 Kbps, 44100 Hz, 2 chan., 0x55 = MPEG Layer-3, Supported

  2. Well I found a fix, sort of. Updated windows media player to version 9.0 and now my clip plays just fine. I am a bit confused why it did not work with WMP 8.0 when other xvid clips were fine, but I will put it down to one of those things.
