  2. I don't really like to go below 70, you must surely be able to spot the difference at 52% unless you are watching on a tiny b&w tv.

I can tell 85%, but then I'm looking for it. I see Macroblocks on my digital Cable TV, but no one else does. Heck, I have some commercial DVD's with distortion in them, so never assume it's the backup process.

However, 52% is too much, why do you insist on menu's and extra's?

The macroblocks and other distortions are not always due to DVD Shrink...
yes they can be but sometimes the source isnt brilliant.

i can ussually notice at around 70-75%

at around 50% you start getting serious blocks, unless the video is of something with little movement, like a tortoise race!

however if that is ok for you then so be it, but most people here (IMO) dont like shrinking it too much...and that 50% is too much

How about when you shrink a DL movie that appears to use unnecesarily high bitrate? An example is "A Simple Plan" I had to shrink the movie (nothing else) down to about 56% and it looked fine. A lot of Paramount titles use very high bitrates. Movies with lots of extras typically fit much
nicer on a DVDR since they squeeze everything on one DL side. So my question is this.....do you lose much when shrinking movies that have been layed out on a Dual Layer if other extras aren't on the pressed disc?

  8. What software is there for copying JUST the movie and losing all the menus and extras??? so you simply put the dvdr in the player afterwards and all you get is the movie?? (other than CloneDVD)

DVDShrink alone can do it. I actually prefer to use DVDDecrypter to Rip the disc to the Hard Drive and then select just the movie with DVDShrink for the backup.

  10. HOW???? do you do that just the movie and NO menus or extras? I can only get it to shrink EVERYTHING on the disk not turn them off completly

You need to do it in reauthor mode. There is a button on the top right of the screen. Just drag 'n drop the movie to the left pane. Then set the audio streams and subtiltles you want for minimum compression. If the compression level is too high, you may want to run Deep Analysis (click the Analysis) button. It'll take some time (30-60 minutes) but it's worth it in terms of quality. Next step is to Backup the shrunken movie. And lastly, burn the Audio and Video Folders to a DVDR.

Yes, you can but it will probably look like crap. If I remember correctly, the Matrix runs about 2 hrs 20 or 30 minutes so you'd be pushing it.
Something you may want to do is to trim the beginning logos and crap you don't need and the end credits using the left and right pointing arrows button.
There are tons of guides for DVDShrink. Give them a try.
