Hi all, i extracted the audio and video using vdub and encoded the avi in tmpg using just the ES Video only stream (mpg2), which produces me an m2v file.
So my question is, i want to keep the extension m2v and not have the extension mpg when i join the audio and video file togther in tmpg,
So is there a program that will allow me to do this?, and is it possible to join an mp3 file to a m2v file?
Any help will be nice![]()

I assume that your .M2V is an AVI file (open it in GSpot to confirm this). If this is so, you can use VirtualDub to mux an MP3 into it. Here's how:
- Make a WAV of your audio
- Open the AVI in VirtualDub
- Go to Video --> Direct Stream Copy
- Go to Audio --> WAV Audio... and select your WAV
- In Audio, select "Full Processing Mode", then Compression and set up how you want the MP3
- Go to File --> Save as AVI... and output it.
I am not sure if you can keep the extension of .M2V since it is no longer a video-only stream. Try it and see.
Hope this helps,

hi there, thanx for ur answer,
thats not quite right, what i meant was i captured a video in avi and used tmpg to convert the avi to mpg2 which produced an m2v file with no audio.
So what i wanted to do is merge an mp3 file to the m2v file and keep the m2v extension, if that makes sense? -
this doesn't make sense to me, why would you want to keep a m2v extension after you merged your audio? you could rename the file as an m2v, even though it's no longer a m2v

Whoa...now! I am going to clear this up for you right now. Ok, so you captured a video and comverted it to MPEG-2 without audio hence your m2v file. What do you care about the file extension as long as your file works afterwards the way you want it to? Do you want to make the movie so you can play it in your DVD Player? If so, don't use MP3 audio. Take your WAV and use BeSweet http://dspguru.doom9.net/ and convert your WAV to AC3. This guide will tell/show you how: http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/audio-guides.htm
Once you merge your audio with your vidoe it will become .mpg whether you're doing MPEG-1 or MPEG-2.
