  1. I'm trying to convert a mpeg-1 file that that is originally a PAL (352x288)
mpg file to NTSC (352x240) format

I use Tmpeg to convert the video but I read one of the guides from
this site that the audio also needs to be converted from PAL to
    NTSC (using BeSweet)

I thought we only needed to convert the video from PAL to NTSC

I'm not sure why the audio also needs to be converted.

Any help on this would be appreciated

PAL comes at 25FPS, this can be interlaced (for a TV show or DV) or can be progressive (for a feature film)

NTSC can be 29.97FPS interlaced and 23.976FPS progressive.

Feature films are shot at 24FPS. so to show a film on PAL we speed it up to 25FPS, and also speed up the audio. so therefore if you want to convert 25fps PAL to NTSC you can slow it down to 23.976FPS and slow the audio as well. this will give you much smoother motion and a better picture all round than trying to convert 25FPS to 29.97FPS.
