I'm asking this question without knowing if you can use DVD burners to burn perfect DVDs, so sorry If I'm wrong.

Why burn DVD's with a DVD burner if the DVD disks alone cost as much or more than the DVD?

  2. How do you get your personal home movies on DVD? How can you record broadcast quality from cable or satellite transmissions? How can you get your favorite video tapes on DVD? There are tons of usages for a DVD burner. The price will come down to that of CD burners in a few years.

I can see for the use of backing up stuff just like we do on CDR now....but I don't know how many people actually copy DVD 2 DVD, so that's what I was wondering...and if they do, isn't it a waste of money.

  4. I asked the same question waaaay back when CD-Rs first came out: "Why burn an audio CD when CD-Rs cost so much?"

Of course now that seem like a silly question because CD-R are so cheap and versatile as to the fact that my Zip drive is gathering dust in some drawer.

At the moment DVD burners is a great medium for storage. Storage meaning data, audio, video files.....huge files.

But back to your question ...yes it makes no sense unless the price comes down. BUT if there's a DVD that's out of print like "The lost adventures of Traci Lords" and only your friend has a copy...then probably you would want to burn it or not..LOL

...hey how about those over-priced Star Trek DVDs?...
and those 2-episode per DVD rip-offs...I'm sure I can fit 7 ST episodes on one blank DVD!

  5. ive got dvdr and use it all the time for copying dvds even if they are over 4.7 they just need reencoding then simple authoring takes me less time than dvd 2 vcd
as for media costs i can now get dvd-r for under £2.50 per disc a dvd costs from £10 to £30 so to me thats not bad

  7. I got into DVD because I wanted to make some cash on transferring wedding videos and other video stuff people would like to have on dvd. I want to go to Historical Societies and see what film they may want to have transferred into the digital format. It would'nt be worth their time if not for DVD. It's the closest you'll get to film. Digitally anyway.

But, I've also transferred some really rare Laserdiscs to DVD. Now I can sell the laserdiscs, (which can degrade overtime), and keep those high quality movies on DVD. And I don't have to watch while the player switches sides.
