Although I've had the deck a while, the manual doesn't really explain if I can do this or not:

I want to burn a 2 hour and 14 minute movie onto a DVD at the 2 hour speed (SP). I know that the HD can compensate while recording to the hard drive (squeezing a program into an allotted time -- the "Flexible Recording" mode), but does this work with burning to a DVD also?

If so, can someone explain the procedure to set this up? Thanks!!

  2. Absolutely, and very well. It adjusts the bitrate to fill the disc in the time allowed; it does not squeeze the movie into a shorted period of time. FYI, I have not tested it myself, but many others have reported the maximum time for the best rate is around 2 hours and 20 minutes.
Still a few bugs in the system...

Not had mine long but ...

As long as you have selected 'DVD' and not 'HDD' mode then just set the recording mode to 'FR' - set the time to 2hrs 14mins - then off you go and fully fill the DVD-R.

However, something I have't tried yet is to do this on the HDD - If I select FR mode on the HDD - does the unit assume you eventually want it to fit onto a DVD-R as it doesn't ask you anything other then the total time. (ie pointless doing a FR with 80 Gbyte to play with...)

Once recorded with FR - then one assumes you can just high speed dub it onto your DVD-R and it will fit fine ...

Hmmmm - I'm curious now - I'm going to try this out ...

  4. if you are going to redub then record in XP mode. If you want the capture file to fit on DVD-R use FR and set recording to how long the movie is this way you can high speed dub.
