    Hello everyone,
I have been very happy with my Panasonic DMR-E80H until now. It started to skip some portions of recording.
I mean when we try to record from our satellite system a 2 hour program, the first 20-30 mins will be fine but after that, we are missing some portion of it.
When we play a DVD into it, I can hear some "reboot" noise but it does not affect the DVD portion.
The "reboot" noise is the double beeb you hear in the boot up sequence.
I removed the cover and blew some air into it, made sure that the fan was working and all.
So far, I have not found anything wrong with it.

    Anyone experienced anything like this?
Anyone have a service manual for that particular model?

  2. You can unplug it from wall for a minute so it resets & see if that makes it better.

As hot weather comes along computers start to get hotter than they should, be sure it's not in an entertainment center & the fan in the back is not blocked.

  3. The service manual for the DMR-E100H can be found here, which is similar to the DMR-E80H.

If you were recording onto the hard drive when the skipping occurred, reformatting the hard drive may help in solving your problem which could be related to fragmentation. If you reformat, all recorded programs will be deleted.

If you were recording to the DVD drive and you're having problems then most certainly you need to clean the spindle.
Note disc cleansers do nothing for the spindle, to clean the spindle you need to take the cover off the unit and also the DVD drive itself.
Check this thread for more info on cleaning the spindle.

If your recorder needs service check this thread for a $130 flat rate repair available from Panasonic.
