  1. I am trying to get about 4 hours of home video from mini DV's to DVD. I have about 50 GB of free disc space on my Hard Drive but after capturing the movie using VisualStudio 7, I did not have enought hard drive space to convert it so that it could be burned to disk (I was trying to use the highest resolution). I have VisualStudio 7 se basic, which does not burn to DVD. I also have sonic MyDVD and DVDshrink. I really am unsure on where to go from here without buying anything else. I would like good quality home video on DVD, it does not have to be super high quality. What do you guys recommend? Please keep in mind, I am new to digital movies and dvd writing. How many hours of home video can I expect to get on a DVD with good quality. Thanks for any help.

The way I see it, you have two choices. Either get another HDD (always a good idea), or capture 2 hrs and edit it down to 1 hr or less of the best material.

If you want to have good quality, expect to get 1 - 1:30 hrs on a DVDR. You should encode @ 7 - 8 mbps.
Got my retirement plans all set. Looks like I only have to work another 5 years after I die........
