If you open the XviD in Virtual dub , I bet you find it has VBR audio. Nero doesn't do VBR Audio(it is after all, a burning application, not an MPEG2 encoder), just like TMPGEnc doesn't do VBR audio. There are guides to the left to deal with that specific problem.

  4. I have the same issues with the sound looping in the middle of the video as well as the sync issues when using differant methods.

    I have an xvid avi file at 25.00FPS with a bitrate of 909kbs - Audio is MP3 @ 121 bitrate VB Mpeg-1 48,000hz

I useed Ulead MM2 and imported this avi file (which plays fine on the PC as AVI). I created the Video_ts folders and watched the dvd on the PC before burning. Horrible loop of audio in the middle of the thing. What I mean by loop is that is starts over again from previous point of movie.

I then read how to extract the audio and resample it. Maybe I missed something in the steps because it didn't work. I used GSpot to determine the bitrates and lenght of the movie. I then used VirtualDubMod to extract the audio. I guess I did something wrong in this portion of it, so I started over and followed the workflow posted here: http://www.polarhome.com:793/~afonic/tmpegenc.htm
Well this sure didn't work the way I wanted it...another coaster! This time the video is skipping as well as the chinese movie look with sync issues.

Is there something I am missing here? Why is this process so annoying to convert to DVD? Isn't there an easier way? Please help me sort this thing out!

  5. Here is some NeroVision Express 2 NFO that may be of help to some of you regarding sound out of sync:

    1. The newest Nerovision 2 DOES do VBR just fine.

    2. Click on the 'More' button at the bottom of EACH window in EACH step along the way in creating your CD/DVD and UNCHECK EVERY 'Option' BOX.

    3. If that does not do the trick, then ALSO click on the 'Video Optons' button at the bottom of the 'MORE' window, and set the Quality Setting to 'Customize', and then take it down to its lowest setting. Don't worry, even at its lowest setting the quality is great if your video card and stuff are of good quality.

Hope this helps some of you. It worked for me.

This must be the newbie section....

Any conversion done using nero is not "great." Acceptable maybe. If you want great try another encoder.

I agree with Gaz, use Vdub then tmpgenc and then burn. Guides for all can be found on the left.

  8. Main Concept works just fine for me with xvid. Perfect in sync files every time.

  9. I recently had a nice hair-pulling experience with xvid and tmpgenc..

I extracted the vbr mp3 as "wav" and used besweet to make an mp2. However, even using that wasn't good enough. I did a "file information" in vdub and it showed the video as 21:27.49 but the audio was only 21.27.02. So what I did was go into besweet and do the "wav to wav" option to make the extracted wav into a REAL wav file, added .47 seconds of silence to the beginning (after determining the audio was playing faster, the original xvid must've had it to .49s delay), saved it as a wav again, and used tmpg to encode the video and audio (with tooLame as the external) to mpg video with mp2 audio.

PERFECT sync. Sounds complex but those steps are pretty straightforward. Most of my other xvid files had a file information difference of only .03s so I didn't need to go through all that

  10. So Nero is great quality encoder now? Maybe you like the encoding speed too? Please dont waste your time with Nero, its really not hard to encode and author a DVD using real encoders and other tools, you can do it faster and better and you will know whats going on along the way. The guides you find in these pages would have saved you the trouble in the first place.
