    Don't know how many people saw this last night, but on The Screen Savers they tested some 8x drives. I can't believe they didn't mention NEC at all. According to them...for value and performance, the Sony DRU-530A is the winner.

    That is not surprising. NEC is not avaliable as a Retail purchase in North America. I believe the retail version is avaliable in Europe and Japan. Reviews and coverages such as these don't usually deal with OEM drives, as an average joe would recognise the Pacific Digital 8x he saw at Best Buy, but wouldn't have a clue that it is a rebadged NEC.

    Don't quote me on this, but I believe that the TDK drive they did review is a rebadged NEC as well.
