    HI,

I have been backing DVD for quite a while, with very few problems that i have not been able to overcome. Help from this forum in guides and topics has solved the other ones!

    My problem...

On some discs, but by no mean all, i think i have had three do it so far, Shrink plays silly buggers.

I have tried it directly from the disc and on a full file set ripped with decrypte, but whichever way i do it Shrink starts of alright, but gradually slows down.

The initial scanning is fine, but the actual main encoding process ends up taking well over an hour.

None of the discs i have encountered it on are over 7.5Gb.

    Has anyone any ideas...?

    Please help.....have i missed a setting?

  2. Zworg2,

I think I have heard that DVD Shrink gets a bit shirty with some direct-from-DVD copies. Try ripping it all to your hard drive using DVD Decrypter and give it another shot.

Hopefully that will cure your problem.

    Hi,

thanks for your response.....however as stated in my original post, i have already tried ripping to HD and then encoding.

    It doesnt make any difference.

  4. Sorry that I can't help but I know what you mean. Last night I did a reauthor where I kept just the main movie (3.8 gigs and no compression) it took 85 minutes to complete. Why? Who Knows. On the next movie it was fine. I haven't played it back in its entirety yet but I suspect it is OK. Go figure!

  6. Sorry, I wasn't paying attention. Still in lecture mode.

I'm afraid I can't offer much advice with DVD Shrink - I did my first DVD with it a couple of days ago.

    Good luck!

Is it possible that you are doing Deep Analysis ? The lower the compression the longer it takes.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  9. 8) I've used DVD shrink & RecordNowMax for quit a while with good succes. I usually reauther because I don't want to compress too much. If I do the DVD doesn't play very good. It starts ok but then I get pixilation and then slows down and stops.
With the new DVD Shrink I was getting the same thing. I have to use DVD Dycrypter first then DVD Shrink. 8)

thanks for the thought, but as i have said twice in previous posts, i have tried using Decrypter first, getting the files onto my HD and then using DVD Shrink.

But it seems to make no difference..!!

  11. You load your ripped files and go File --> Deep Analysis.

This should significantly boost the standard of the copy, according to some people. I have never done it otherwise.

Me too, every DVD I backup uses this method, although sometimes the option isn't available (size too small so no need).

    thank you all....

so does that mean that it only deep analysises when doing the encoding and doesnt do it when it first scans the disc.?

also does anyone knwo at what point it decides to use deep analysis (ie what content size, over which it does) ??

    thanks again

If it does not need shrinking, whether it is the whole disk or movie only, if it shows only GREEN then it will not trigger Deep Analysis. It's pretty much automatic if you have that option checked as indicated in previous replies.
No DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD!

    zworg2,

As per Deep Analysis, dvdshrink does not perform this on the initial quick
analysis of the dvd. It does it before the ripped files are encoded.

I believe you said that you do not see the Deep Analysis button on the
program's task bar. Have you thought about uninstalling and reinstalling
the program? If you still don't see the button after reinstalling the
program, maybe you have a corrupted installation file. Try downloading
dvdshink again from a different source.

Do you delete the files of the dvds you copied after they have been
burned? If so, your hard drive may be fragmented after you ripped and
    burned two or three dvds.

I defrag the partition I use for this purpose almost after each dvd I copy.
Furthermore, I do nothing else but dvd authoring on this partition with
windows xp on a ntfs partition.

Hope you can get things working properly. This is an amazing program.

I've always been happy with the quick analysis. I haven't tried the deep analysis (some have suggested that I try analysis ) since I haven't needed it.
