  1. Seems like a lot of people is having trouble with bin files, including me.
Downloading bin files is not a very good idea since they're huge and they can become corrupted while your downloading. It takes along time to download a bin file again if it's corrupted, so I normally stick to .rar files if it's possible. With rarfiles you will know if there's something wrong with the file when you unpack. But bin files? With movies in the bin file format I never know if there's something wrong. At least I never got an error message. Maybe someone else got? Anyway, there's a lot of issues with "Could not find xx", "Unrecogniseable file" etc. In my case it's always the multiplexing part that's faulting. Ripping the bin file with vcdeasy always solves it for me. So I guess there's something wrong with the bin file to begin with. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe the structure in the bin files is following "loose standards" or something. Maybe vcdgear is'nt up to the job? Have to try out vcdxrip from now on. Comments?

  2. I am now on my 112th conversion (Yep, I'm sad enough to keep checks...lol)

ALL have been from Bin files. I dowload them as Rar files initially then when the lot are Unrared they are Bin and Cue files. I am sure I have no need to say where this type of file is obtained.

Every one of the 112 has been put through SVCD2DVD in it's default settings and written from the resulting files. I have so far not had a failure, the only time I have had to rip one a second time was when the 3 bin file titles were written slightly different and they went on as 1,3 and 2.

I sometimes wonder if it may have something to do with the hard drive either it's writing speed or it's format. I use a NTFS partition for the ripping and writing. plus I think you mentioned it before keep it all well defragged. I also keep one partition JUST for DVD work and nothing else. it starts each time as a bare drive.

I am probably a lucky one to have this work the way it does, and if I am doing something different to anyone else I cannot see it other than the way the drive is used.

    My twopenneth.

  3. Downloading as rar initially is the best thing to do, but what I can't remember is if the bin files I've had trouble with has been downloaded as rar or bin. Last time I had trouble it was downloaded as bin. I'll have to remember to check that out.
