  1. I want to backup a few of my DVDs but I dont like the extras but I like a menu. Can i use DVD shrink to copy main movie only to my hard drive with no compression even if it is bigger than 4.7GB.then use TMPGEncDVDAuthor to create a new DVD making my own menu for the main movie and then use DVD shrink to fir it on a DVD-R
any help gladly accepted.I know DVD decrypter rips to hard drive but I really like DVD shrink even if its slower cause it sorts DVD into sections

just use the add from disc on the main menu of TMPGEncDVD Author, select the longest duration from the list (usually the film). it will then ask you if you want to keep the current chapters, which it will do if you hit yes.
(you can also add extra chapters if you want).

if your film is over 4.7gb use dvdshrink to shrink it, and then use the add from disc option in TMPGEncDVD Author and do the same as above.

you can then make your menu and TMPGEncDVD Author will encode it all to a folder that you can burn, or just use the burn softwear.

    hope that helps.

  3. Just rip the whole DVD to your hard drive with DVD decrypter and then TMPGEnc DVD Author will allow you to select the main movie only and then make your menu for it. If I remember correctly, you can't go straight from the disc to TMPGEnc DVD Author because of the encryption, so you do need to use a ripper. Why wouldn't you want to use DVDdecrypter? DVDShrink doesn't do anything different. Sections?

Take my advice and do it like this:

    1. Rip the whole disc to your hard drive using DVDdecrypter

    2. Open DVD video in DVD Author and select the main movie and the audio you want, and then make your menu and output.

    3. Shrink with DVDShrink if you need to, and then burn.

  4. Thanks that seems easy enough for me to follow just one more thing. When making my source for DVDAuthor do I have to make it a certain size to accomodate any menus i may create.ie if the film I want to back up is 7GB should I shrink it to say 4.5GB leaving 200MB for the menu I add or does it sort this for you
