    Hello,
I just bought myself a bose acoustimass 15 series II entertainment set along with a Denon-884 receiver. This bose system is a 5.1-channel speaker system, upgradble to 6.1. I was wondering which dvd player would best suit my needs for getting optimum sound quality? Some dvd players say "Built-in DTS® Surround Sound Decoder" and "Optical Digital Output for DTS® & Dolby Digital® Surround Sound" but what does this mean? Does it support 5.1 audio? I am looking for a dvd player which can play both 5.1 and possibly 6.1 audio but do not understand what these features mean. I would appreciate any help. Which dvd players can I purchase? Thanks.

There are two formats that carry surround sound on a DVD disc
    1. DOLBY DIGITAL 5.1 , 6.1, 7.1 \whatever
    2. DTS SURROND SOUND

tese are competing companies and most commercial releases opt for one of these formats
    HOWEVER:
DVD's can also have uncompressed PCM AUDIO
    and/or MPEG-layer 2 AUDIO

so if your player doesn't say it, on the front..it doesn't mean it cant do it

A DVD PLAYER should play all these formats

WHAT you need to make sure is that the DIGITAL AUDIO OUTPUTS of the DVD PLAYER YOU CHOOSE can send digitally whichever format you are currently listening to by a DIGITAL PATH to the ACOUSTIMASSSSW THING you bought..

WHAT KIND of digital input port does it have? and do you intend instead to feed it with the output of the DENON?..In which case we'd need to know what kind of digital ports you purchased on that unit instead...

Till you give some more info..that outta help
