I know WinDVD 9 uses DX9c and the software video quality is just awful. The player itself is utter rubbish as well. As far as I’m aware, the last quality/stable player they made was WinDVD 6, and I don’t think it’s compatible with Vista's EVR.

Cyberlink is better than WinDVD at this point, but the player is buggy as hell (both 7 and 8 ). And I don’t even know if it uses DX10. Also, it frequently skips frames, so does WinDVD but not as much.

You can find more info about that here

ATM, it seems Vista’s built-in DVD player is the best performer out of all. The video playback is extremely smooth on WMP 11. I couldn’t see any frame drops what so ever. (Note: I live in the UK and most our DVD movies are encoded in 25p (yes, 25p), so we can tell even the slightest frame drop/jump.) In fact, the smoothness can be compared to dedicated hardware MPEG-2 decoder. It also uses AVIVO more effectively. However, the sound department is rather disappointing as it lacks DTS and Dolby Prologic surround-sound decoding. And it doesn't even allow X-Fi's CMSS 3D to up-sample dual-channel to multi-channel. Finally, its Dolby Digital dynamic-range isn’t good as PowerDVDs’, which is a big issue for me.

So, is there any DVD player for Vista that actually utilizes all of Vista’s multimedia advantages (DXVA2.0 and DX10)? Also, are there any true 64bit decoders available?
