A couple posts ago, someone recommended Shareaza as a P2P. I decided to try it. The BIT TORRENT part of things work, but I can't seem to connect to the networks for edonkey. This may have to do with my firewall but is there a way around that without turning off the firewall. I can use edonkey (a little slow) with one...can I do it Shareaza...does anyone know???

I have never used share but you will need to open the udp and tcp ports which edonkey is trying to use.

like he said upd and tcp... especially if you running a router... emule actually has a guide to help u.. had same prob, config router left firewall alone and works fine.. emule and kazaa lite k++ is best, use nothing else

Configure those would be done through my router, or in Control Panel, or should there be a setting in the Shareaza menu. In the years that I have been using edonkey, I have always been firewalled and had slow as hell speeds. I just never really cared, until now when I can leave my work PC on ALLLL day and allll night...

it shouldnt require anything much special .. ports 4662,4661,4665 to allow connections
try changing the ports to TCP port : 3662, UDP port: 3665 and number of connections approx 150.
see the edonkey forums for help on routers, if thats the problem.

Also see the help forums on overnet, as the program is basically the same:

Oh, and I only use Shareaza for G2 and occasionally ed2k, never BT, because the BT implementation is not perfect, according to Bram Cohen, the creator of BT. IMO, the best BT client is Shad0w's Experimental (current version S-5.9.9). http://bt.degreez.net
I still love Shareaza though. If you have more problems with Shareaza, try their forums, I'm there by the same name I am here (Read the FAQs first though, or you'll start being flamed like crazy). -
i went and looked and - just one port required ...
pick which one you will use in options and set firewall up same way .."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
Searh for a user on this board called "Roundabout", he is the authority on routers etc..., he talked me through my one. There is a huge thread all about ports, if I remember it is titled "port opening on a router"

Well, I have a slight disadvantage when it comes to setting things up over here. My OS is in Japanese, and I am not sure what most of this stuff means. I could ask someone for help, but most people that speak Japanese, are either computer illiterate or just can't speak good English. I will play around with the settings, thanks for the help anyway

I thought I would give shareaza a try, but it would not import the partially downloaded files from overnet. Tries to but says it can't. Anyone know why.
-
There is a slightly complicated way. First you have to convert your partial Overnet DLs into eMule ones by resuming with eMule. Then, using this thread (http://forums.shareaza.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4413) and DonkeyDoctor (link in thread) import in Shareaza.
Another thread that should help:
http://forums.shareaza.com/showthread.php?s=32c0c24ee94595e153b5c46ed193a077&threadid=11500
I would recommend just finishing the DLs in Overnet and starting new ones in Shareaza.
How is overnet? Better performance than using eMule/non-hybrid? -
I think I will finish them off in overnet seems like too much hassle
I had problem with emule knocking out my internet connection, it would run for a while ok then it would start to freeze up the PC, on and off. So my whole system would lock up for about 10 seconds, then be useable for 10 seconds, lock up again and so on, it would continue to cycle like this and my download speed would drop down to zero then I would loose my internet connection completely. If I shut down emule the problem of freezing/thawing would persist and the only way to fix it would be to unplug my cable modem. To get back online I would plug the modem back in then goto internet connections and repair the connection.
With overnet I have no such problems and connection speeds can be very fast, upto 65-70 KB/s, but there can also be long spells of very low speeds or no speed at all.
I thought shareaza would be worth a try as it connects to more networks so there should be more sources for files. -

I tried reducing the number of connections, had the same problem. I don't remember anywhere you could set the number of hubs though.

You should try the Shareaza forums at http;//www.shareaza.com for specific config help.
