  1. Question:

Is there a software program that can now use the dual layer dvd drives and write it to the new blank dual layer dvd's without using compression? Taking advantage of the full 8.5 gb or greater space on these new dual layer dvd's is what I want to do so the quality remains very high vs. compressing it onto the normal 4.7 gb blank dvd's. As I understand it-the only use for the new dual layer dvd's and drives is to make data dvds/store data on it-not for movies and there is an encryption factor to get around- how do I do this then?

thanks for any info on this.

It's gonna be a while before any programs get the layer break right automagically.

    Are you sure?

I've backed up a commercial movie DVD I own with no problem regarding the layer break. I think the key is to burn the movie as an ISO file in Nero. That way, Nero doesn't mess with the original layer break.

    As far as authored DVDs:

If you can get a hold of it, DVD Maestro lets you place the layer break exactly where you want it.

You can indeed back up movies with the new dual layer burners. There's a bit of trial and error going on right now trying to find the best ways to do it, but it can be done.
