I have finally mastered how to make perfect back-up copies of my DVDs, but once again i have stumbled across another problem!! I cannot copy a backup. I have copied many of my DVDs using DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink and they have been very successful, but when i try ripping my backup copy with DVD Decrypter i get a I/O Error? is there any other way round this?

This question is asked at least twice a week, try a search next time Captain Hook

Sounds like a classic case of the newbie who bought DVD X Copy blindly and can't copy any of the DVDs he created with it.
Do a search, man.
Fill in your computer details.
Be a bit more elaborate than "now it won't work".
What error message does it give you ?If in doubt, Google it. -

READ ERRORS are most often caused by using less-than-perfect DVD media (i.e., media being the name for a DVD recordable disc).

I burn with DVD Decrypter because it seems to me (from experience and reading what other's have said) that it is the BEST way to burn a DVD ... at least much more fool proof than using the bug ridden NERO program.

what issues does Nero have exactly? The only thing I've come across is firmware related I believe. Whenever I try to burn a DVD+RW disc in Nero with 1.06 firmware on my NEC ND-1300A it crashes right before it hits 100%. I've tested this on 2 diff drives, different Nero revisions (one was 5.5.10.56, one was a recent version 6) and got the same results. Anything else thats common?

My experience with Nero has been nothing short of sensational. The only errors I've had have been either my own stupidity or bad media. I've updated from time to time and all updates have worked seamlessly on my computers over the years.
Just lucky I guess.
I reckon its irresponsible to spread the word that it has issues when it does not for a number of different setups. I wonder how many issues are user-related ?If in doubt, Google it. -

So is it fair to say that it works well?
Or is it more fair to say it has "issues"?

You could try riping with your DVD Burner, instead of your DVD-ROM, as it may be more tolerant .
My first guess though would be ... it's your media .... if you aren't already, switch to something like Ritek G04's and see if this makes a difference.
95% of errors are down to bad/cheap media.
Regarding the Nero/DVD Decrypter issue, I have used Nero for a few years now, without problems, but I would say that Nero is a complex program and as such, has many "trapdoors" for newbies to fall down. Also there have been a few issues that Ahead themselves acknolwedged, regarding DVD compliancy. These were sorted long ago, but the bad taste lingers !!!. Having said that, there is some logic, when troubleshooting, to use a simple burning solution, like DVD Decrypter ISO/Write, as this leaves "no room" for user error. -
i would skip dvd decrypter since the backup is already decrypted and head straight for dvdshrink, just my methodology, works for me.
ps i burn with nero 6 with no problems to date. i also use memorex +R media that often gets a bad rap (i do use the ricohs, not the cmcs), also with no issues to date.
