  1. I don't know for sure if this is the right forum, or if there is a right forum for this, but WMP 9 stopped playing MPEG2 encoded videos. And somewhere along the way, Moonlight Elecard MPEG2 encoder took over the job, but now it says time is up and puts a dancing symbol on the video. I don't even recall downloading the Elecard, but I'm not the only one who has access to this pc. I may have d/l it thinking I was getting an encoder to use in video capture/edit/burning. If I uninstall the Elecard, WMP 9 will not play MPEG2 video, and it used to before the Elecard found it's way onto the pc. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling WMP 9 with the same results. No MPEG2 playback. I suppose I need some drivers or something. So, how do I get WMP 9 to work properly without Elecard? Help...

  2. WMP9 does not play MP2 on its own. It has to have a 3rd party codec. if it played it before you must have had a software DVD player like Power DVD or WinDVD installed. if so reinstall that program to get your codec back to operational. if you don't have one of those programs download the trial version of Power DVD, install and uninstall it. It'll leave its MP2 codec on your system, fully functional.

You might try this one, it's a freeware MPG2 codec.https://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=323#comments

  4. The pc came with Power DVD and Power VCR. They are both still installed. How do I get the association between Power DVD and WMP9 back?

  5. Thanks to Poppa_Meth for mentioning Power DVD. I went to Cyberlink's site and found an update. WMP now plays MPEG 2 again. And I'll never mess around with Elecard again. I found some info on it that makes me think it's not exactly honest in how it operates.
