  1. I have a Panasonic DMR 85 H.

I converted some home video to DVD and the output to the DVD saves the audio in Digital Dolby.

I've been trying to convert a clip to VCD with TMPGenc but get the error

"The selected DVD contains an audio track which cannot be decoded"

The decodable audio format are as below:
    --MPEG-Audio, Linear PCM
    --Other Format are not recognized
I was trying a long way around by converting DVD to VCD via Ulead DVD MovieFactory 3, and received a similar error about Dolby Digiital not accepted.

Any suggestions on how to get around this hurdle? I'm a confused newbie. (Sorry, couldn't figure out what forum to post this in.)

TMPEG cannot decode ac3(DolbyDigital) audio. You need to convert the ac3 to wav with Headac3he. TMPEG will be able to encode from wav.

  3. Sorry, newbie here, but I don't see how this is relevant.

All I have is a VIDEO_TS directory with VOBs, IFOs, and BUPs--there are no ac3 files.

The AC3 files are multiplexed along with the video streams, menus, chapter points and other navigational info and are all bundled up nice and neat inside those VOB files you see inside your VIDEO_TS folder.

Use something like DVD Decrypter or DVD Shrink to demultiplex the AC3 files. After you've extracted them you can convert them to whatever format you want with a number of different programs.

Steps 1 thru 4 in this guide will get you the AC3 files...
