I want to do 2 simple(?) things:

    1. Copy standard DVD's (video_ts) to an AVI. Main reason for this is to save space. I have no need for complex things, no splitting, no transformation no nothing, only simple conversion.

    2. Copy .AVI tot standard DVD (video_ts). reason, because I want to view them on a standalone player. Again here: no complex stuff, no titles, no authoring, no nothing only burn a DVD.

I've been trying out for days now and spent multiple hours on a range of products. However I keep getting lost in all the boxes I can check and buttons I have to select out.

Can anyone give me the settings to do these 2 functions?

    thx.

Handbrake is a wonderful tool for turning DVDs into MPEG4 files (AVI if you want). I suggest using it. As for going the other way, I haven't found a perfect solution yet, so I'll let someone else answer that.
If it isn't broken, take it apart and find out why.

select the .avi then choose preset "DVD lo-bitrate" or "DVD hi-bitrate". With some .avi-files - depends if your avi is cropped or not - you might want to enable/disable "Letterbox" option in the "Options" tab
