Simple economics. Bill Wrigley got to be a zillionaire selling gum for 5 cents a pack.

Bill Hearst got his zillions selling newspapers for 1 or 2 cents a copy. I think that was the 1890s price.

Gillette, blades for 2 cents each.

And, damned if I'm not starting to think the movie makers are subsidizing the DVD player makers. Some one posted 20 bucks for a movie, 30 bucks to buy a machine to play it on. Razor and blades. Who can buy a DVD player and not start buying DVDs to watch on it, or even rent them?

So, 200,000 "little bits" of weed, 5 bucks, a million bucks for guns.

But don't feel bad, GW and his boys say I'm just as guilty for buying all that gas made from foriegn oil, and if I was a true patriot, I'd get a 50 mile to the gallon kiddie car, scrap my truck.

Oh, well, can't win on this one.

Bucs lost their first to Cincy today, 6-3. Gonna be a long season. But bad ball is better than no ball

I'm a Cardinals fan for life. But since I've moved to Arizona I find myself watching more of their ball. Loved to see them match-up in the NLCS someday. Bob Gibson would approve, methinks.

Yeah, quotes would have made it more apparent. Otherwise, "Sure, there's a bunch at every game I go to."

Their team hasn't won a pennant since like 1932, but they're still there. "Wait'll next year.".

Pittsburgh hasn't done too-too badly, from the 70s to 90 or 91, when they lost to a hit by a total unknown rookie, on a run by a pitcher with knee braces (Sid Bream, who went to Atlanta, and still got a standing 'O' when he came back to play against us...can't say we hold a grudge ) after a throw about 30 feet off line by the great R Fielder Barry Bonds. I think the rookie was Francisco Cabrera. Jim Leyland, the skipper, said "How do you say we got beat by a hit by Francisco Who?"

I rarely go to games. I smoke for one thing and don't like them to tell me I can't light up for 4 hours. My beers cheaper, and I got my own fridge full of my kind of food. Don't have to walk 200 yards to take a leak, either, and miss the action, although this new park is fan friendly. In the men's, all the urinals face the field, and the wall is two way mirrors, clear inside. That's why they named it "Pee and See Park"

Is Jay Bell still with the Dbacks? Him I wish they'd been able to keep. Great f'in SS. But 32 mil would have been hard to turn down. Specially when loyalty is a one way street.

Our Jeff King, 3B, said he only wanted to play 2 more years, same money as the last contract, I don't need a raise. Got his name on the dotted line and traded him off within days.

Ah, well, hope to watch a few of the exhibition games if the put 'em on TV. Should have had my radio on at work, forgot the game was on. Won't miss the next one.

Well, we got ball, and we got dope, and a buncha players are being accused of using steroids, including B Bonds. Pic in the paper showed him bulked up by about 100 pounds. If he ate his way there, he'd be using a walker. Maybe Canseco was right when he said about 75% were on anabolics, after all.

Hey, BTW, Merced is back trying for a roster spot. If I recall, his first at bat in the 80s he hit a homer for us. Then he married Bill Virdon's g'daughter, so had to have left for money, think he would've had enough pull there to keep him with a halfway decent contract. I liked him then, he makes it, I'll probably like him now, but it is disheartening a little to know all you have is rookies and retreads. Plus, of course, Kendall who everybody wants to dump because all he gets are hits and RBIs and very few boomers. And 10 mil a year. We could get another whole team of rookies and retreads for that kind of money.

But, he didn't put a gun to their head and demand it, all they had to say was no.

I've had MLB Extra Innings since, oh shit, 1997? I don't go to games anymore. You listed a whole bunch of reasons why baseball is better on the boob tube than Bank One Ballpark. 120° in July is just one of many reasons why I stay home!

Jay Bell? Shit, I don't have the slightest idea. I'd have to think about that one for a minute. I'm feeling pretty good with Alomar and Hillenbrand, though.

Cardinals v Diamondbacks in NLCS? I'd have to go Cardinals. As much as 'I Love My Diamondbacks' the Cardinals are still Numero Uno in my book.

We get the D'Backs on Channel 3 here in AZ just about every game. And I'd say about 75% of Cardinals between DirecTV and WGN.
