  2. What are the stats on your computer? (processor, memory..It cant be that low since youre running XP)
Do some file formats lag out and not others? (vcds, xvid, divx, rm, etc etc)
Is it every movie or just a certain title? If its just a certain title, the chances are it was encoded out of sync.
Consider trying out Media Player Classic if youre a big fan of windoze media non-player. Its very good and lite on system resources.

  4. What's the video format? AVI or MPG?
    1gig of memory
I've encountered this once also quite relevant to your case. I assume you have 512MB x 2 to create a gig of RAMs. Try this,

    1. Remove one of your RAM from either slot and try to play the video file.
    2. If that didn't work, reinstall the RAM you removed to the same slot and remove the other one.
    3. If didn't work either, take RAM A that was on slot 1 and install it onto slot 2 and vice versa, but one at a time.

I figured you'd probably had a faulty but not dead RAM. Also, try to update your video drivers.

BTW, izzit OK for me to post a non video relevant solution here? Yeah, I didn't go through the rules entirely.

  5. Could be either a bad video card, bad video drivers, bad memory module, something with the processor...Who knows. Its most likely hardware though, since he had a full gig of memory. Thats more then I have, and i watch anything on my pc. But I have a nice video card as well.

  6. the video files are avi, mpg, etc. and i also have the latest video card driver. i also notice that any video file that i open the cpu usage always uses 50%. i think thats the reason the y the video file lagg.

Turn off all post processing. No computer made today can play a full screen DivX with max post processing filtering enabled. Scarry eh? Also make sure your not doing software rendering, that you have hardware acceleration turned on.

Is your AGP slot turned on, that is is it faster than 1x (should be 4x or 8x).
